DLE- Microorganisms
For this assignment we were given two weeks to put together a Digital Learning Experience. I had a hard time deciding on a subject at first. I really wanted to put together a resource that was practical, comprehensive, and something that a teacher would actually use. After starting and stopping units on two other subjects I settled on the fact that I wanted to create something that was out of my comfort zone and something that I hadn’t done before. Being a former Kindergarten teacher I hadn’t had much experience with 6th grade curriculum and I finally settled on microorganisms. With that in mind one of the standards were for students to describe the structure of a microorganisms, so I decide that as a part of the culminating activity they would design a 3D model of one. I was also motivated by this because we have quite a few 3D printers in my school district that are not being taken advantage enough.
Once I determined the standards and the focus of my unit, it all came together. I used a few elements of project-based learning, STEM, and Google Apps. Overall, this unit was my favorite assignment of the whole semester. This project was not an easy one for me as I struggled in the beginning but certainly found success in the end.
